Sunset 2 – Level 1
Level One: The Social Horizon
Located in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sunset 2 is a duplex penthouse currently under construction. The first level is conceived as an open, social layer of the home — a space where architecture, light, and lifestyle converge into a cohesive composition.
This is a level of presence. A level of movement. A level that establishes the rhythm of the entire residence.
Architecture Informed by Context
The local climate shapes a material approach where functionality and refined elegance exist in balance. Surfaces are selected to preserve clarity, luminosity, and longevity, without compromising the sense of sophistication.
Glossy marble flooring with minimal joints creates a continuous foundation, allowing light to travel freely across the interior. Materials are treated not as decorative elements, but as structural components that define the character of the space.
Spatial Continuity and Openness
The living room, dining area, and kitchen unfold as a unified spatial sequence. Rather than being defined as separate rooms, they are connected through clear visual axes and generous circulation, allowing the interior to expand naturally.
Large glazed openings extend the living spaces toward the main terrace, where interior and exterior begin to overlap. Natural light becomes an active architectural element, shaping proportions and enhancing textures throughout the day.
Leisure as an Architectural Extension
This level integrates a gym, home cinema, and cinema bar as inherent parts of the spatial narrative.
The gym maintains the disciplined material language of the residence, reinforcing clarity and structure. The cinema introduces a more immersive atmosphere, where controlled lighting and deeper tonalities create a sense of focus and retreat. The adjoining bar enhances the social dynamic, completing the entertainment layer of the home.
A Social Balance
Level One embodies a contemporary approach to vertical living — where openness is paired with composure, and scale is balanced by tactility.
It is a space designed for gathering and connection, while remaining architecturally grounded and restrained — a level that defines the social energy of the home without disturbing its internal harmony.
